Afternoon Activities

Our enriched afternoon program complements the goals of our morning program by providing a variety of co-curricular activities for the children to enjoy. These activities are directly linked to your child’s learning in the Montessori classroom, and allow all of those skills that have been previously introduced in isolation to be implemented and practiced in an authentic and social setting. It is in these afternoon activities that the children learn to pace themselves according to a group rhythm.

Our afternoon program offers a wide and alternating variety of activities that will allow your child to explore new skills and find new passions. The array of activities – offered by specialists both visiting and in-house – focuses on the development of the whole child, with a focus on igniting a sense of balance, perspective, wonder, discovery and imagination.

Perspective

Expanding cultural horizons and embarking on a journey of discovery.

Kick Starters

Tsuyosa Karate’s Sensei Meghan brings her knowledge and wisdom to teach our little ninjas the eastern principles and techniques of martial arts, as well as the art of meditation. This karate class boosts self-confidence, develops respect, builds mental discipline and promotes leadership skills. The program aims to build a solid foundation in martial skills and is a great introduction to any future martial arts program.

Passport to Discovery

Welcome to ” Passport to Discovery”, a series of captivating activities that invite our young explorers to embark on an adventure around the globe through the lens of science. Each session is an expedition of discovery, focusing on a new country or region and its unique cultural treasures. Highlights include getting icky learning about Azerbaijan’s mud volcanoes, and getting sticky investigating Canada maple syrup!

Travel with Taste

One thing that most cultures have in common is the pleasure found in sitting down together to share a good meal. Travel with Taste leans on this custom and brings food tourism to the Orchard House table. Here, our young chefs embark on a journey of culinary exploration as they prepare and taste ingredients and recipes from all corners of the globe. After all, “you have to taste a culture to understand it.”

Globe Trotters

This program invites the children to explore new horizons through the magic of books. Our little travellers will learn about the different continents and explore the various countries around the world. As they travel the globe, they will have the occasion to familiarize themselves with languages, landscapes and cultures, and to gain a better understanding of how our friends in other parts of the world live, work and play.

Little Hands, Big Hearts

In an effort to promote empathy, to raise social awareness, and to support an understanding of the perspective of others, the children in this class have an opportunity to “pay it forward”. By supporting school fundraising initiatives and other community-related events, the children participate in classroom projects by executing thoughtful gestures for others. What an important foundational social skill for our next generation!
